DVD Spine Poetry

Someday I am going to do a really nice book spine poetry. But for now, I've set my horizons more realistically and settled on DVD spine poetry - which I thought would be easier to manage as I have far fewer DVDs than books. So here we go...


The virgin suicides at muriel's wedding resulted to the lovely bones at grey gardens...scary movie genre!

Period Film: This is a love story about the duchess and the other boleyn girl at the downton abbey

Summer comedy: She's having a baby - it happened one night at the circus on an enchanted April

Classic: The taming of the shrew at the last station resulted to war and peace and letters to juliet

Senseless comedy mash up: Citizen Kane, Sweeney Todd and the Young Girls of Rochefort were all at the big store

Eclectic adventure: There is some kind of wonderful in dreams and motorcycle diaries and Paris

Sarcastic Comedy: Gentlemen prefer blondes and room service to an education or a night at the opera

Dark Comedy: Margot at the wedding with a Stranger after a seven year itch and illusions

Pink: Wong Foo, Zoolander and Borat were all pretty in pink

Schizophrenic: A room with a view of the joneses and the holy grail on the sands of iwo jima

Mediocre Adventure: A view to a kill Sinbad 20000 leagues under the sea in wild south America

Summer Dud: Love happy with nick and norah's infinite playlist during ferris bueller's day off and nights in rodanthe

The Lotus Pond at Gardens by the Bay

I've never really explored the entirety of Gardens by the Bay, but last week I was delighted to discover a lotus pond near the Marina Reservoir promenade. And it helps that it is in a quiet area too:-) Here are some of my snaps: Lotus is considered a rare gem for its ability to grow out of a mud. It is an important symbol in Buddhism (it can mean purity, fortune, faithfulness, the stages of a Buddhist' life - depending on context and colour)...and many books use the analogy of lotus and mud to explain the role of murk (suffering, etc.) in the bigger scheme of things, i.e., the lotus flower (beauty) needs the mud (suffering, etc) to bloom and grow...one such book is Thich Nhat Hanh's No Mud, No Lotus Bees season! There's a whole stretch of them at Gardens by the Bay The flowers apparently bloom in the morning or with sunrise, and the older ones shed off their petals in the afternoon This is what's left after the bloom...it lacks ...

SingPoWriMo 2014: Anthology

Singapore Poetry Writing Month or SingPoWriMo is a curious phenomenon in the literary scene: it started out in the virtual world (a Facebook group set up in April), where members/poets of every stripe, young and old, veterans and emerging were challenged to respond to daily prompts during the "cruel month of April" aka Poetry Month. Many of the prompts were deeply challenging: Day 1 for example involved the use of 6 words including debauched, trade, exclusive, Day 4 encouraged the use of one-syllable poems, Day 16 was the writing in a different language and dialect, and so on . Clearly these kept the poets engaged as new poems cropped up everyday in response to the prompts. Pinto Art Museum: A Must-Visit Art Destination in Philippines

It was a rainy Tuesday when we went to Pinto Art Museum in Antipolo, Philippines. Such a weather would have been ideal for a museum tour, normally an indoor activity. Pinto Art Museum, however, is not just an ordinary museum. It is a cluster of galleries sitting in more than an hectare of landscaped gardens, in the hills of Antipolo, overlooking the huge megalopolis that is Metro Manila. It is a place that begs to be explored, both inside and out. So armed with our umbrellas, we braved the rain, and was rewarded with the many charms around. The cozy cafe by the entrance is perfect for late breakfast... or simply a good cup of coffee - a steaming one was just right for the weather that day. The pouring rain almost stopped us from discovering the charms beyond the gates. Glad that we had "rain or shine" as mantra that day. A small chapel near the entrance.
